2017 Winner Angel Navarro!

The Big Bear High School Fashion class and Fashion club produce an annual fashion show each spring. Aspiring designers spend the entire school year learning about fashion, textiles, stitching and sewing and assembling patterns. The year kicks off with a day long field trip to Joanne’s fabric store where the students utilize the Joanne’s classroom. Each student is given a budget for their collection consisting of 4-8 outfits. The students must sketch the outfit; locate all of the necessary items for each to include:  patterns, fabrics, notions and detailing items. Next the students have to work out the cost of the completed outfit and budget to allow for all outfits to be covered.  This process takes 6-8 hours and with a huge amount of help from our friends at Joanne’s the students make their purchases. Next, the students return to school, each with their designated box of supplies and the sewing begins.  All designers select student models to show off their creations.  Then the sewing machines come to life, humming like a swarm of bees. It takes the students a full 6 months to complete their collections. Last year the theme of the show was “A Real Fantasy”, featuring collections like: Dreams vs. Nightmares, My Senior Year, Elegance; Season and The 50’s vs. 2017. The students went above and beyond in creating beautiful garments to grace the runway.  The winner was Angel Navarro with the Dreams vs. Nightmare collection! Stunning, whimsical and fun designs earned him the first prize scholarship.

This year’s theme is “Unchained” with collections called; Garden on the Runway, Gothic Masquerade, Dancing Through Life, Nightmare Before Xmas and Neverland! It is anticipated that this show will be the best one yet!

The show will be on April 20th at Big Bear High School.
